Star Wars Cantina Lamp – a unique piece of Aviation Aero Salvage

dsc_5511-pWe were so excited to learn that a Rolls-Royce Derwent engine which we had bought was the exact same type as that used for props in the original Star Wars film.

The ingenious set creators had stripped down a Rolls-Royce Derwent engine and used the beautifully sculptural components to make items such as the light sabre, the head of the Assassin Droid IG-88 and the optic-type receptacles behind the bar in the Cantina scene.

We decided to create a Cantina-style lamp using the exact same part of the engine – the combustion chamber.  Firstly, the engine was carefully stripped to remove the combustion chamber without damage.  Following patient cleaning and polishing, the chamber was mounted above an engraved base plate and suspended by a steel rod.  Fitted with an Edison bulb lamp, the natural cut outs allow the light to filter through in a fascinating way.

See the link below for our brief Youtube film for photos of this iconic piece.  A real statement piece for any Star Wars fan.
