Dinosaur Desk – Stage Prop from Globe Theatre Production
Possibly the most unusual item we have ever bought!
This table was made as a prop for a stage production at the new Globe Theatre in London. The play was called Three Hours After Marriage and the main character was named Doctor Fossil. The stage was full of the most wonderful pieces including this table. Take a look at the framed provenance which accompanies this table. In addition to a poster from the play is a photo of the stage showing the table.
The table is painted black and the legs are a pair of prehistoric reptiles which are steel based with paper mache covering. One is facing forwards and one is facing backwards. There are also two small skeletons underneath which are human skeletons (plastic of course!) with real animal skulls. Please note that these two skeletons have sustained some damage and losses.
Size – 122cm wide. 69cm high. 61cm deep.
The table is painted black with green faux marble effect panels on the front.
The condition of the table I would describe as strong, usable, with some damage and marks to the painted finish. Some rust signs to the protruding metal parts of the large reptiles and as mentioned, some significant damage to one of the small skeletons.
This is a fascinating and unique piece of theatre history and perfect if you are looking for a show stopping conversation piece!
Happy to speak to you about this item and to send further photos as needed.
