Two starting points to your room are white walls or matt heritage colours. Add a wooden floor and layered rugs. An antique chandelier will instantly create a centre piece to any room. Antique table lamps can be added onto side tables or shelves to create pools of light. Many of our arts and crafts table lamps are quite literally works of art! Most importantly you need to pick what appeals to you. A more simple Corinthian column table lamp in brass may be more to your taste. The light bulbs you use are important too. Adding an exposed soft glow filament bulb to an Art Nouveau lantern or an antique brass chandelier can give a great contemporary look.
When it comes to wall art, old masters and oil paintings may not be your thing – a step too far. Large pieces of modern art can work well and provide great contrast. And of course, don’t forget mirrors. They really do add depth to your room and can showcase a pretty antique crystal chandelier for all to see.
A classic Chesterfield sofa will never date but adding fun cushions and throws will once again make a classic look more contemporary.
